Steve Miller
Steve Miller, renowned for his work with the Steve Miller Band, has played a variety of guitars throughout his illustrious career. Steve and I have shared numerous guitar moments, including my sourcing not one but two limited edition Billy Gibbons Pearly Gates Gibson Les Paul models for him! Over the years, I’ve sent Steve various prototypes for his evaluation and design suggestions, fostering a collaborative relationship we both share to this day! Here’s a brief history of some of the notable guitars associated with Steve:
Early Years
In the early days of his career, Steve Miller played various guitars, including a Gibson Les Paul. His early influences were rooted in the blues, and he often gravitated towards guitars that could deliver those rich, bluesy tones.
The Les Paul
One of Miller’s early notable guitars was a Gibson Les Paul, which he used extensively in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Les Paul was known for its thick, sustaining sound, which suited Miller’s evolving rock style.
The Fender Stratocaster
By the mid-1970s, Steve Miller began incorporating the Fender Stratocaster into his repertoire. The Stratocaster, with its bright and versatile sound, became a staple in his performances. He used it prominently on albums like “Fly Like an Eagle” and “Book of Dreams,” which featured some of his biggest hits.
The Gibson SG
Another significant guitar in Steve Miller’s collection is the Gibson SG. Known for its lightweight body and double-cutaway design, the SG offered Miller a different tonal palette, adding to the diversity of his sound.
