Fontaines D.C. guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Carlos O’Connell suggests fashionable rock music has turn out to be too “humble” and “apologetic”, which then “will get in the best way of the music”.

The band are gearing as much as launch their new album Romance tomorrow (twenty third August), which has seen them develop an attention grabbing new aesthetic that O’Connell has had a very vital hand in.

In an interview with Uncut, O’Connell says he was amused by a fan on-line evaluating their new look to “mutant Spice Ladies”, the place drummer Tom Coll is Ginger, frontman Grian Chatten is Sporty, guitarist Conor Curley is Posh, bassist Conor Deegan is Child and he himself is Scary.

“It’s fairly humorous how stunning he’s,” he tells the shops in response to the response to the photoshoots. “It wouldn’t occur in any style aside from rock ‘n’ roll. When you’re a rapper you possibly can go round with grills and watches and chains, exhibiting you’re a hit. Rock ‘n’ roll has turn out to be such a humble style. It’s apologetic. I feel it will get in the best way of the music that unhinged type of creativity.”

Elsewhere within the interview, O’Connell shares his hopes for the band’s future as they develop.

“My solely ambition is for us to remain collectively,” he says. “For it to simply be the 5 of us and no-one else’s voice within the room. Fontaines is a world that we believed in and we’ve maintained. After we began, the moments within the rehearsal room we had in Dublin have been the one factor we had of any worth in life. It was simply ours. It’s nice that we have now different issues in our lives now. However that was the beginning of all of it, and that’s all the time going to be the foundation of all of it.”
