Jeff “Skunk” Baxter is a renowned guitarist known for his work with bands like Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers. He has a distinctive style and has played various guitars throughout his career. Jeff and I have enjoyed collaborating on many guitar-related projects! He also is an ‘old West 48th Street Music Row’ guy! Our most recent project is the new Michael Kelly nylon string acoustic guitar. We periodically speak on the phone during the design phase and, of course, catch up at NAMM to exchange concepts and ideas. Jeff’s wealth of knowledge and experience has been an invaluable tool for me throughout my career. While I was the president of D’Angelico Guitars, Jeff and I worked on a hollow body guitar we christened “Big Red”—essentially an ES-175 style guitar loaded with custom electronics and a Bigsby vibrato.
