Since 1997, Reverend Guitars has been designing a number of the most revolutionary guitars to seem on live performance phases. From Vernon Reid and Pete Anderson to Rick Vito and Billy Corgan, a various vary of gamers have created stunning music with a Reverend (or two).

Reverend’s Spacehawk was designed for Reeves Gabrels when he joined The Remedy in 2012, and the brand new Spacehawk Supreme is the corporate’s sixth signature mannequin created for him (Ed. Be aware: he discusses the guitar on this month’s “First Fret”).

The Supreme’s aesthetics convey a retro vibe incorporating fashionable tech and nifty styling geared toward non-traditional gamers. Our evaluate mannequin was completed in Venetian Gold on a semi-hollow korina physique (Metallic Silver Freeze is another choice) with a strong maple high and a three-piece korina neck. The neck’s profile is medium oval, with an ebony fretboard that has a 12″ radius. It has 22 frets, a 243/4″ scale, 43mm Boneite nut, and Reverend’s Pin-Lock Tuners. Controls include Quantity, Tone, Bass Contour, five-way pickup selector, Section push/pull, and Studio push/pull. Its Bigsby B-50 has a curler bridge.

The guitar has a Railhammer Alnico Grande pickup within the bridge place, a Hyper Classic Bridge within the center, and a Hyper Classic within the neck place. This configuration permits for seven pickup combos – neck/bridge and neck/center/bridge. The Killswitch toggle turns the guitar off or can be utilized to create Les Paul-like stutter results.

A putting piece, the Spacehawk Supreme’s neck and weight are comfy. Plugged right into a Deluxe Reverb and a JHS Candy Tea, it elicited an array of sounds that fell sonically between a Gretsch Falcon and a Gibson ES-345. Whereas it rocks with the grime dialed up, the true goodies lie within the out-of-phase and in-between pickup positions, the place its tones are distinctive, trippy, musical, and provoking. It handles jazz, blues, rockabilly, and rock and roll, and simply begs for use for ambient time-based results.

When its time to increase your tonal palette, it’s price contemplating the Spacehawk Supreme. – Oscar Jordan
