Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden believes pop-punk’s largest chapter remains to be being written, and in response to the guitarist, there’s one band with the ability to comply with within the enduring, stadium-filling footsteps of the Rolling Stones.

After seven years away, Good Charlotte returned this yr with Motel Du Cap, their first new album since 2018’s Era Rx. It marks the tip of a protracted quiet stretch for the Maryland pop-punk veterans, who had largely stepped again from releasing music after that document and its accompanying tour.

Chatting with Guitar.com in a brand new interview, Madden shares his ideas on what it takes for a guitar participant to depart a long-lasting mark and why he doesn’t consider the period of pop-punk stadium bands is over simply but. When requested to call crucial guitarists within the style, his primary alternative got here with out hesitation.

“If I’ve to go primary, it’s Billie Joe from Inexperienced Day,” says Madden. “They’ve taken pop-punk all the way in which from golf equipment to stadiums and now a bunch of pop-punk bands have achieved – or will do – stadiums. You haven’t seen the final pop-punk stadium band. Inexperienced Day would be the [next] Rolling Stones, as they proceed on and play stadiums all around the world.”

For Madden, Joe’s affect goes far past guitar tones or technical showboating. As an alternative, it’s about songs – and the power to write down music that embeds itself into tradition.

“Once more, it goes again to, ‘How can I develop into a guitar hero? How can I develop into a guitar participant that’s remembered in time?’ It’s all concerning the songs,” Madden continues. “Billie Joe has his personal really feel, and his personal journey, too. That may be the poster baby to me, as a result of they’re a fixture within the tradition of what folks love and bear in mind and affiliate with. That makes him a very necessary pop-punk guitar participant.”
